Pearl Jam and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron has unveiled a new solo track and lyric video called “Down The Middle." The track is from a new solo album that Cameron recorded last spring with the help of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and members of the Melvins.
The as-yet-untitled LP is Cameron’s second solo outing, following 2017's Cavedweller. He's also recorded with smaller acts like Wellwater Conspiracy and Hater in addition to both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.
Cameron began his career with Soundgarden but has also been a member of Pearl Jam since 1998, after Soundgarden disbanded for the first time. He told us a while back about joining the iconic act: ["Oh, it was just a great opportunity with guys that I knew and I trusted and I really liked, and, you know, the fact that it was a band that was at the same level as Soundgarden when we had broken up was great too. I didn't have to, like, start over, you know, in a van again, which was awesome. It was kind of a no-brainer, you know. Eddie's (Vedder, singer) such a great guy, Stone (Gossard, guitarist)…they're all just real good people."] SOUNDCUE (:20 OC: . . . real good people.)
Pearl Jam released its 11th studio album, Gigaton, on March 27th. The band’s first LP since 2013’s Lightning Bolt was supposed to launch with a massive global listening/screening event as well as a spring North American tour, but both fell victim to the COVID-19 pandemic.
