Elton John says he purposely deprives himself of creating music between projects. The "Rocketman," who'll be on tour Down Under though the end of March, spoke to Classic FM.com and shed light on how he composes his music these days: ["I write very quickly — but I starve myself from writing. I don't write very often. I write every two years — in the early years, it was every other week, but now I don't write very often. I'm writing in Australia when I'm going to be there. I haven't written an album for two or three years, three or four years. I'm looking forward to writing. 'Never know what to expect. That's the great thing about writing. I never know what I'm gonna get, so the process has never gotten dull, it's always been 'Oh, what's this one gonna be?'"] SOUNDCUE (:24 OC: . . . one gonna be)
Elton, who will be writing his first new set of songs with Bernie Taupin since the release of 2016's Wonderful Crazy Night. He spoke candidly about the forces that drive him and Taupin to still create at the top of their game: ["It sounds very cliche, but it's like a gift from God. That I look at his lyrics, as I'm looking at them I'm imagining what's going on; a film appears. I finish the lyric, I kind of think this should be the tempo, maybe, and genre of music. Then I put my hands on the keys, and the I go from there. It's usually the first four or five chords that I play determine what the song is going to be, and I have no idea where it comes from."] SOUNDCUE (:22 OC: . . . it comes from)
